About me

My name is Jen, and I am a mum-to-be to a beautiful little bambino or bambina (due in September)!!  We are very excited, but thankfully have lots to keep us busy between now and then.

I am also a step mum to three gorgeous kids and last but certainly not least, a wife to my soul mate and partner in crime, Rob.

Both my parents were native English speakers, as were my grandparents, and great grandparents etc.  Don't get me wrong (mum if you are reading this) I had a WONDERFUL childhood, however I did not have the opportunity to learn a second language until I was in High School.  It was there that I decided to study French and ended up continuing with the language for my Higher school Certificate.  

Rob comes from an Italian background.  Although he does not speak Italian himself (yet), both his parents speak the language.  I have always been excited by this and decided (at about 5 weeks pregnant) that this was something I wanted to help share with my family.  I am currently learning Italian and am loving it!  I hadn't realised it was such a beautiful language.  

Living in a country town means exposure to any language other than English is quite rare.  We don't have bilingual preschools or 'story time' at the Library, and social groups for other Italian bilingual families are non existent.  

I hope by creating this blog I will be able to connect with families, share my experiences and also learn from others.
